Clinton Bassett - Gadsden County is noted for growing some of the finest leaf tobacco in the United States, and with this business Clinton Bassett has been identified since completing his education. In this he followed his father, now deceased, and made good in a difficult phase of agricultural production. In more recent years, entering public life, he has been elected and twice re-elected tax collector of the county and rendered the public excellent service.
Mr. Bassett was born at Gretna, on March 23, 1912, son of William N. and Letitia (Mosley) Bassett. He was reared on the home farm, attended rural and town schools, and rounded out his preparation for a career in a business college. Since boyhood he has been familiar with the ups and downs of growing tobacco, and both before and after the death of his father, was well known for his skill in this testing industry.
Clinton Bassett is a well recognized authority on tobacco growing and general agriculture. Until 1948, he was a director of the Gadsden County Farm Bureau, a man ever ready to share his knowledge and the results of his experience with all who seek them. In 1941 he was elected county tax collector, an office in which he since has been efficient and continuously kept in office by the electorate. Active in Quincy affairs, he is a member of its Chamber of Commerce and Exchange Club. His religious affiliations are with the Methodist Episcopal Church.
On November 25, 1948, at Quincy, Florida, Clinton Bassett married Audrey Faircloth, of Quincy.
