Cathy Bass
Cathy Ann (Wallis) Bass, 64, passed away peacefully at her home in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, on Friday, March 24, 2023.
Born in Evansville, Indiana on January 31, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Betty (Box) Wallis. From an early age, Cathy had an immense love of animals and nature. She thoroughly enjoyed teasing her 4 younger siblings and doing anything she could to skip out of her daily chores.
After traveling the states as a naval daughter, Cathy settled again with her family in Mt. Vernon, IN; graduating from Mt. Vernon Senior High School in 1978 and later attending the University of Southern Indiana. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, John R. Bass. They were married in 1988 and settled in Mt. Vernon, IN to raise their son and many pets. They spent their days gardening, boating, fishing, and loving on their grandchildren.
Cathy was a sweet soul who appreciated any and all of her friends and family. After the death of her husband in 2004, Cathy enjoyed spending time with her friends; most especially Nancy Patrick and Carolyn Singh. Despite many health issues, she had a zest for life and tried to stay active by visiting family, eating out with friends, and doting on her nieces and nephews. She also
loved art, reading, and photography.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 14 years; her parents; son, John E. Bass; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Bass.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Amanda Brock (John), Casey Bass (Chelsea), and Brenna Bass (fiancé, Sam); siblings, Debra King, Wilbur Wallis, Jr. (Glenda), John Wallis, and Lisa Wilkin (Randy); many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN with burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
