Bassett, 79, of Pennfield Township, died Aug. 2, 2001 at Battle Creek Health System. Mr. Bassett was born June 8, 1922 to Leroy and Rhode (Karcher) Bassett in Freeport. He worked as a pressman at General Motors in Lansing, and Eaton Manufacturing in Battle Creek, as a tree trimmer for the city of Battle Creek, and for Consumer’s Energy. He married Phyllis Face in 1945; she survives. Mr. Bassett was a member of the VFW in Nashville and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed fishing, car racing, motorcycles, horse racing and the dog races. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; brother, Donald Bassett of Bellevue; seven nieces and nine nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Keith and Richard Bassett. Private graveside services were held at Hillside Cemetery, Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
