- Sadie and Elmer first had a small ranch, then he worked for a lodge and he guided
people on hunting and fishing trips for Lochsa Lodge. One time he was on a
hunting trip and got caught in a blizzard. He became lost from the others he
was with. He was carrying a deer and the snow became waist deep. The rangers
and everyone were out looking for him, but they finally gave him up for dead.
Sadie never gave up on him. She said he knew the forest. He got into a
hollowed out tree to keep from freezing to death. When the blizzard stopped,
he found his way back to the camp.
Sadie was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was al
member of the Eastern Star. Elmer sent Sadie back to Fillmore to be buried.
Her funeral was on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., at the Allen Funeral Home. She had
died on a Friday. Charles Hutson officiated the funeral. She was buried in the
Glendale Cemetery. Elmer was also buried there.
Sadie had no children, but she took care of Elmer's childr
previous marriage. They were Mrs. Ruth Wessel of Rosamond, California, Mrs.
Bernice Donnely of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Mrs. Phyliss Ward of Missoula,
Montana.
