RONALD A. BASSETT, 27 Oct 1978
Ronald A. Bassett, 75, of 29 Ridge Ave. died last night at his home
following a short illness.
Born in Pittsfield, son of the late Charles and Katherine Voll
Bassett, he was educated in local schools and was a lifelong resident. He was
a member of the South Congregational Church.
Mr. Bassett was employed by the Berkshire Life Insurance Co. for 48
years until retiring in 1968. He started with the company in 1920 as a clerk
in the addressograph department upon graduating from Pittsfield High School.
He transferred to the policy department where, in 1928, he was named
chief assistant. After serving as assistant manager in the renewal department,
and then manager in the premium and commission section, he was promoted to
general accounting supervisor in 1953.
Mr. Bassett was the first Berkshire Life Insurance Co. employee to be
named a fellow in the Life Office Management Association. He was active
involved in the work of the United Community Services ever since that
organization was instituted as the Community Fund in the 1920
Besides his wife, the former Elsie Harris, with whom he celebrated
their 47th anniversary Aug. 7, he leaves a son, Conrad A. Bassett of North
Brookfield; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Bemis and Mrs. Kathleen Delaney, both of
Pittsfield, and three grandchildren.
Private services will be Monday at the Devanny Funeral Home. Cremation
will follow.
Friends may call at the family residence at their convenience for the
following week.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations in Mr. Bassett's memory
to the South Congregational Church music fund.
