MISSOULA – Kathleen Bessette died unexpectedly in her home Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. She was born April 7, 1970, to John D. Bessette Jr. and Leah R. Schmitz in Missoula, where she spent most of her entire life. She loved to fish with her brother Doug and partner Patricia, always trying to catch the biggest fish of the day.
She spent hunting season walking and driving many miles with her brother and this year got her elk before anyone else. Cooking was her passion, making those special meals for birthdays and Mother’s Day. This past year, she learned to make jams, jellies and apple butter. She loved sharing her products with anyone who was willing to try, but don’t eat the chili!
She loved spending time with her nephews, big and small, teaching them how to cook, harvest berries and fish. She would scold them if they needed a firm hand and praise them for their accomplishments. She never had children of her own; her cats, Tuff-enof and Code, were her kids.
She was preceded by her grandparents, June and Harold Schmitz; a niece, Sterling Bessette; and an uncle, Herbert Schmitz. She is survived by her partner, Patricia; mother, Leah of Missoula; her father, John (Pat) of Florida; brother, Doug (Sarah) Bessette of Missoula; sister, Rebecca; sons, Anthony Bessette and Ian Marshall; niece and nephew, Kyle and Bailey Sue Bessette; uncle and aunt, Paul and Betty Lee Schmitz; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and best friend, Odie (Don).
A celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held at the American Legion Hall, 825 Ronan St., on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1:30 p.m. followed by a reception. Arrangements are under the care of Cremation & Burial Society of the Rockies.
