      Dorothy A. Bass, 87, of Sedalia, died Friday, March 15, 2024 at the E.W. Thompson Health & Rehabilitation Center.

      Funeral services will be Friday, March 22, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Sedalia.

      Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery, with Jason Culp, Nate Radebaugh, Aaron Douglas, Chase Douglas, and Jayden Douglas serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Sedalia Animal Shelter in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.

      Born July 31, 1936 in Smithton, she was the daughter of the late Paul T. and Elsie Hoehns Culp. On March 23, 1957 at Lake Creek United Methodist Church, she married James L. "Jim" Bass, and he preceded her in death on March 29, 2009.

      She is survived by a daughter, Anissa Douglas and her husband Jerry of Smithton; four grandchildren, Ashley Radebaugh and her husband Nate, Aaron Douglas, Chase Douglas, and Jayden Douglas; and a brother, Paul Culp, Jr. of Smithton.

      She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Pamela Diane Bass.

      Mrs. Bass was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sedalia. She worked for over twenty years as a legal secretary for Judge Donald Barnes. She took a large part in getting the historical murals painted and paid for on the third floor of the Pettis County Courthouse. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Helen G. Steele Music Club, and the Smithton Garden Club. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for all occasions. She played the piano and organ for numerous weddings and funerals, as well as accompanying soloist Carol Barnes. She was an animal lover, and enjoyed working in genealogy. She was an extremely good and competent secretary, quiet yet effective.
