Bassett, 74, Dies Today Joseph Thomas Bassett, 74, of 204 Apple Ave., Hampton died at 5 a.m. today at the Mary Immaculate Hospital after a long illness. He was a native of Isle of Wight County and had been a Peninsula resident for the past 41 years. A member of the Trinity Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class, he had retired in November 1950 from the toolmakers department of the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. Surviving are one son, Stafford L. Bassett; two daughters, Mrs. Walter A. Leyland and Mrs. Frank H. Beard, all of Hampton; three brothers, Simpton T. Bassett of Carrollton, Frank L. Bassett of Hampton and Ellie Bassett of Franklin, and five grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Frank Beard, 200 Apple Ave, Hampton.
