Harriet Woodhull
LITTLE COMPTON, R.I. - Harriet Borden (Hubbard) Woodhull, 85, of Taylors Lane,
died at home, Saturday, July 31, 1999, after a one year battle with cancer.
She was the wife of the late William Tennent Woodhull.
Born in Yonker, N.Y., a daughter of the late Samuel Thomas Hubbard Jr.
and the late Margaret (Bassett) Hubbard, she spent her youth in Yonkers having
lived in New York City from 1933 to 1935, Bronxville N.Y. in 1936 to 1975 and
Little Compton year round since 1975. She also summered in Little Compton,
from 1964 to 1974, Westport Harbor from 1914 to 1932 and Kennebunkport, Maine
1933 to 1958.
She was a graduate of Miss Master School in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. class of
1931 and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City, class of 1932.
Mrs. Woodhull was a former treasurer of M.H. Woodhull Realtors,
Bronxville, N.Y., former residential sales manager and member board of
directors management associates of Lawrence Management, Bronxvill
Mrs. Woodhull was a former member of Reformed Church, Bronxville. A
member of the United Congregational Church in Little Compton and its Finance
Committee, Ladies Aid, treasurer of Thursday Thrift Shop, Former deaconess,
chairman and secretary of Finance Committee.
She was a former president, secretary, and treasurer Bronxville, New
York Board of Realtors Inc., member of Westchester County, New York Board of
Realtors, Inc. and made member Emeritus of Westchester County Board of
Realtors upon retirement in 1975.
Mrs. Woodhull was a former charter member, secretary, treasurer for
the Junior League of Bronxville, treasurer of the American Red Cross,
Bronxville Branch; co-chairman Staff Assistance Corps and Blood Bank during
World War II, secretary of the Board of Directors Community Fund of
Bronxville, Easter, New York, treasurer of the Coffee Shop at Lawrence
Hospital, Bronxville, president of the Bronxville Women's Golf Association,
chairman of the Ladies Golf Association at St. Andrew's Gold Club in Hastings,
N.Y., first vice president of the Westchester, Wicks Curling Association, St.
Andrew's Gold Club, Hastings, N.Y, and co-chairman of 1974 U.S. Women's Curling
Association National Bonspiel, and a member of Bronxville Field Club,
Shenorock Shore Club, Rye, N.Y.
She was an honorary member of Warren's Point Beach Club, Little
Compton, member of the Sakonet Golf Club, Little Compton Garden Club and it's
past treasurer, Little Compton Women's Republican Club and it's past treasurer,
United States Senior Golf Association and its past secretary, National
Colonial Dames of Rhode Island and its past assistant treasurer, life member
of the Little Compton Historical Society, Fall River and Rhode Island
Historical Societies, Little Compton Public Health Nursing Association, Fall
River Marine Museum, National Trust Historic Preservation and Newport County
Preservation Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Armstrong Woodhull Bersing of
Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, William Tennent Woodhull Jr. of Newport; a sister,
Mary Hubbard Alling of Delray Beach, Fla.; a brother, William Hustace Hubbard
II of Bethlehem, Pa.; five grandchildren; and two step grandchildren; s
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Woodhull was also the sister of the late Samuel Thomas Hubbard
III and Thomas Bassett Hubbard and grandmother of the late Mark Woodhull
Bersing.
She was the great-great-granddaughter of Richard Borden and Abby
Walker Durfee Borden, great-granddaughter of Thomas James Borden and Ma
Elizabeth Hill Borden, granddaughter of Rufus Waterman Bassett and Harriet
Minerva Borden Bassett.
A Service of Thanksgiving and Tribute will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug.
6, 1999, at the United Congregational Church, the Commons, Little Compton.
Burial will be private.
Arrangements are with the "Cherry Place" Home of Waring-Sullivan-
Ashton-Coughlin-Driscoll, 178 Winter St. Fall River.
