Reverend Father Gerald C. Bass, 70
The Reverend Gerald C. Bass, a Redemptorist priest, died Tuesday of leukemia at Touro Infirmary. He was 70. Father Bass was born in San Antonio and lived in New Orleans for many years. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Seminary in Wisconsin and the University of Southwestern Louisiana and received a master's degree in education from Loyola University. After serving as parochial vicar at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Orleans and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crowley, Father Bass was a science teacher, assistant director and principal at Holy Redeemer Seminary in Lacombe from 1961-78. In 1978, he moved to the Redemptorist vice-provincial residence in New Orleans as director of research and planning and later served as archivist. Survivors include two brothers, Thomas and Robert Bass, and a sister, Betty Fulmer. A wake will be held today at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church, 2030 Constance Street. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. A Mass will be said Saturday at 9 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Mission Center in Lacombe. Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
