Velda Jane Bass

Velda McGinnis Bass of Bremen passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016. She was born in Parker?s Landing Pennsylvania, March 16, 1925, daughter of the late Mark and Daisy Sedgewick McGinnis and grew up in Paintsville, KY. She married her husband, Joseph A. Bass in 1944.
She was a faithful member of the Temple Church of Christ. Preachers and their families were frequent guest in her home, as well as hosting many church socials.
She loved gardening, sewing and cooking. Her greatest joy was serving delicious meals to family and church friends. Many friends and neighbors were the recipients of her famous cookies. Her love of cooking led to a career as cafeteria manager and dietician for Temple High School during the 70?s.
She was also an accomplished seamstress, even making wedding dresses for family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Alvia Bass, Sr. on September 16, 2004 after 60 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Dean Wright and Joyce Takacs.
Survivors include children; Chuck and Janie Bass of Carrollton, Hugh and Debra Bass of Carrollton, Tim and Ellen Bass of Bremen, Chip and Cindi Bass of Carrollton, Debbie and Steve Sampler of Bremen; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and a sister, Ginger and Bob Hayes of Philadelphia, PA.
Services will be Tuesday, September 20 at 11:00 AM from the Temple Church of Christ with Mr. Terry Langley officiating. Music will be furnished by the congregation. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Center Point Church Cemetery with Steve Sampler and John Bass officiating.
