Loraine Lira Bass
Corpus Christi - God called Loraine Lira Bass home on December 5, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Loraine was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 16, 1960, the second child of Lucille Prado Lira and Cecil Lira. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy, class of 1979. After graduation Loraine was hired at the neighborhood HEB store. Her illness caused her to retire after having been a loyal, dedicated and trusted associate with HEB for 39 years.
Loraine was married to the love of her life, James Michael Bass. They made their home in Orange Grove, Texas. Loraine had one son, William James "Will" Bass, to whom she proudly devoted much time; including his studies, school band activities and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
Loraine enjoyed reading, caring for her dogs and cats and gardening. She filled her yard with plants and flowers ranging from delicate pansies to many native cactus varieties.
Loraine was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Lira ("Daddy"), her sister and brother-in-law Valerie Lira Tomlin and Michael E. Tomlin and her aunt, Josephine Prado Garcia.
Loraine is survived by her husband, Michael and her son, Will. Also, her mother, Lucille Lira; her sisters, Arlene (Bruce) Easter, of Corpus Christi, Dorothy (Mike) McGinnis, and Caryn C. Lira, both of Houston. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, many cousins, nieces and nephews, school friends, and the many friendships established throughout her long career with HEB.
Our beautiful Loraine was vibrant, kind, caring, thoughtful and generous with her time. She was much loved by everyone who entered her life and will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415. To leave an online condolence, please visit our website at: www.memorygardensfuneralhome.com.
