Michigan man, 77, killed after snowmobile hits tree in Mackinac County
MACKINAC COUNTY, MI ? A 77-year-old Michigan man was killed when his snowmobile struck a tree in Mackinac County.
WLUC-TV reports that Norman James Bass, of Goodrich, missed a turn on an unfamiliar snowmobile before hitting the tree. He was taken to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The crash occurred approximately a quarter mile west of Borgstrom Road in Hudson Township on Jan. 1. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash, the TV station reported.
The Mackinac County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Hendricks Township Fire Department, Hudson Township Fire Department and Luce County EMS.

Norman was the loving father of Nancy (Jim) Eckola, Julie (Dave) Dewar and Michael (Kathy) Bass; loving grandfather of Andrea (Aaron) Burns, Laureen (Jake) McDonoff, Erik (Kelsey) Dewar, Ben (Kelsie) Eckola, Rachel (Jacob) Ignacio, Jacob Bass, Sam (Natalie) Eckola, Mark (Hannah) Dewar, Joe Eckola, Joshua Bass, Bryan Dewar, Hannah Bass and John Eckola; and dear great grandfather of Anthony Burns, Jimmy McDonoff, Micah Burns, Hudson McDonoff, Kylia Ignacio, Henry Dewar, Ellie Burns, Elijah Tarleton, and Jack McDonoff. He is also the dear brother of Emily (Tom) Brown, and Alice (Ralph) White; and step-brother of Joan (Tom) Clair, Cathy (the late Doug) Bisball and Robert (Jan) Gibb. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 6pm at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Lake Orion. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday from 3pm until the time of service.
