Gertrude W. Bass
PORTSMOUTH - Gertrude Webb Bass, 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center Saturday, April 19, 2008. A native of Raleigh County, West Virginia, she was the widow of Clyde Oscar Bass and the daughter of the late Lewis and Lena Webb. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
A loving mother, she was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Sue Lee. Those left to cherish her memory are her five daughters, Betty Smith, Delores Richardson, both of Chesapeake, Peggy Shayewitz and husband Fred of Staten Island, N.Y., Gloria Kincaid and husband Mac of Portsmouth, and Sandra B. Lane and husband Harvey of The Villages, Fla.; a son, Clyde E. Bass of Chesapeake; 19 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd Chapel, by the Rev. Tim Robertson. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.
