Mrs. Irene Bass Died Last Night
Body Will Be Brought Here From Greenville, Mississippi
Former Columbia Resident
Deceased Was Member of the Well Known Kentucky Hickman Family
And Married Wm. Bass of This County
Mrs. Irene H. Bass died last night at her home in Greenville, Miss. A telegram from her sons, E.E. Bass, announced the sad news to Columbia friends this morning. Funeral services will take place tomorrow afternoon at the Baptist church, provided the trains make the usual connections. Burial will be in the Columbia cemetery.
Deceased was a member of the prominent and well known Hickman family of Kentucky and was also closely related to the Hickman family of this county.. She was born in Kentucky and married the late William Bass there, moving to Boone county immediately after. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Bass lived at their country home about twelve miles out on the Ashland gravel. Their home was proverbial for its hospitality and the generosity and graciousness of Mr. and Mrs. Bass will always be remembered by every one who had the privilege of being their friends. Later they moved to Columbia and the same good cheer was always extended their host of friends. The news of Mrs. Bass? death will be learned with sincerest regret by every one who knew hear and the sympathy of the whole community is extended to the bereaved family, every one of whom is cordially and kindly remembered by many friends in their old home.
Mrs. Bas is survived by one daughter, Miss Laura Bass, and seven sons, Everett E., Lawrence, Hugh, of Greenville, Miss., Thaddeus, Wm. Robert and James P. of Oklahoma.

Mrs. Irene Bass Dies
Former Columbia Passed Away in Greenville, Mississippi

Mrs. Irene Bass, widow of the late W.H. Bass, fell asleep Thursday night, Dec. 15, 1910, at her home in Greenville, Miss., where she had resided for several years. The first news of death was conveyed to Columbia friends by a telegram from E.E. Bass, her son. The remains arrived here Saturday afternoon. On Sunday at 2 p.m., Funeral service was conducted by Rev. G.W. hatcher, at the Baptist church, and the body was laid to rest in the Columbia cemetery. Numerous friends in this city and southeast of town attended the burial, thus honoring in death one they had loved in life. The minister, in speaking of Mrs. Bass?s virtues did not fail to mention her sunny disposition, her broad charity, her useful, unselfish life.
Among the out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral were the sons, E.E. and Hugh Bass, of Greenville; Thaddeus and William, of Oklahoma, and Robert Bass, a brother-in-law, of Kansas City. Miss Laura Bass, the only daughter, was prevented from attending by illness.
Deceased was born in Kentucky and there married the late William Bass, with whom she came to Boone county soon afterward. She was related to the well-known Hickman family of Kentucky. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Bass lived at their country home on the Ashland gravel, twelve miles southeast of Columbia, (the place now owned and occupied by R. Crenshaw). The home was characterized by old-time hospitality and generosity. Many who were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Bass will regret to hear of the passing of this excellent woman.
