In 1891, he removed to Redding, where he bought a farm and engaged in scientific farming. When Redding became a city, he was employed to establish grades and lay out a sewer system. In character he was above reproach, his word was as good as his bond, and his habits in daily life were so methodical, the neighbors were said to have set their clocks by him.
