Edward Bassett, 77, formerly of 707 Colescott St. who resided with his daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Marilyn) Wilson, 226 W. Locust St., died in Margaret and Mary Hospital, in Batesville, Indiana at 5:30 p.m. today. He had been hospitalized one week and in poor health four years. Born in Shelby (or Brown) County, Indiana, November 22, 1893, Mr. Bassett was the son of Martin a Mattie (Collins) Bassett. He married Lettie Baker in 1915, in Shelbyville, and she died Sept. 26, 1959. Before his retirement, Mr. Bassett was last employed by the city of Shelbyville, prior to which he was employed for years at the former Chambers Corp. Surviving besides the daughter with whom he resided are nine other children. Mrs. Joseph (Ruth) Landwerlen and Jack Bassett both of Shelbyville, Mrs. Jesse (Nellie) Sparks, R.R. 1 Flatrock, Mrs. Ruby Tucker, Fairmont California, Robert Bassett, Corpus Cristi, Tex., Mrs. Arthur (Lucy) Saunders, R.R. 1 Flatrock, Mrs. Dale (Patsy) Bastin, R.R.2 Milroy, Mrs. James (Betty) Taggart, R.R.1 St. Paul, and Mrs. Charles (Mary) Henderson, Hope; 43 Grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren. A brother preceded in deat Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Murphy Mortuary. The Rev. Marvin Isley will officiate and burial will be in Bennett Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 3 p.m. Tuesday.
