He was born in Halifax County on March 27, 1930, a son of the late Claude Clifton Bass and Nettie Mildred Hamlett Bass, and he was married to M. Betty Solomon Bass, who survives. He was a retired lead lineman with Dominion-Virginia Power and was a member of Dan River Baptist Church. Mr. Bass is survived by his wife of the home; one daughter, Dianne Bass ? Mr. Joseph Dean Bass of 2031 Dan River Church Road, South Boston died Friday, June 4, 2010, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 80. Mr. Bass is survived by his wife of the home; one daughter, Dianne Bass Hinson and husband Warren of Apex, N.C.; one son, Rickey Dean Bass and wife Verna of Garden City Beach, S.C.; one sister, Lorene Bass Lucado of Appomattox; six grandchildren, Josh Hinson, Ryan Hinson, Caroline Hinson Flory, Christi Youngblood, Lee Rudisill, Tyler Bass; and by three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Connie Collie; and by six brothers, Elwood Bass, Curtis Bass, Earley Bass, Willard Bass, Melvin Bass and Albert Bass. Funeral services for Mr. Bass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2010, at Dan River Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home.
