Darrell Eugene Bass
ROCKFORD- Darrell E. Bass 81, of 102 9th Street S.E. died Wednesday July 27, 2005 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 2, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with Pastor Thomas Healey officiating. Burial will be in the Rockford Riverside Cemetery with full military honors conducted by members of the American Legion Post 338. Visitation will be Monday Aug.1 from 5-7 p.m. at Sheckler Colonial Chapel 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs.
Darrell Eugene Bass was born Oct. 13, 1923 in Mason City the son of Ernest V. and Emma J. (Tibbits) Bass. He graduated from Colwell High School in 1941. After graduating from A.I.B. in Des Moines Darrell went to work for Standard Oil in Des Moines.
He enlisted in to the United States Navy in 1943 and he was honorably discharged in 1946. Darrell was united in marriage to Dorothy Trask on July 21, 1946 at the Rudd Parsonage; to this union two children were born. Darrell and Dorothy moved to Rockford in 1948, where he farmed in the Rockford area. Darrell was a salesman for Pioneer Seed for 30 years, retiring in 1992.
Darrell loved collecting and restoring his tractors, having coffee with friends, his greatest love was spending time with his family especially his Grandchildren.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bass, of Rockford, daughters, Linda Lovik, of Iowa City and Janet (Dennis) Haller, of Decorah, grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jacqueline, and Joshua Lovik, of Iowa City, and Katherine and Lucas Haller, of Decorah, one brother Eldon (Freda) Bass, of Rockford, along with several nieces and nephews.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Stephen Lovik.
