Roger L. Mielbeck, 70 formerly of LaPorte, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2002 in Windsor, Colorado. He was born in Nankin Twsp, Wayne Co, Michigan to Iva (Bassett) and Henry Mielbeck on September 23, 1931. He would have been married this coming August 2 to Joan S. Barnes for 50 years. He graduated from LaPorte High School. Out of high school he served in the Air Force for four years.
Roger is survived by his wife Joan; son and daughter-in-law, Patricia A. and Kevin M. Mielbeck, Windsor, CO; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn M. and Daniel L. Berrier, Michigan City; one brother Wesley H. Mielbeck, Inglish, FL; and two grandsons Nathan M. and Collin M. Mielbeck. Roger was preceeded in death by both parents, one brother Floyd W. and one sister Arlene J. Yanes.
Roger's life was filled with a love of fun and adventure, as evidenced by his love of travel, camping and hiking, snowmobiling, cross country and downhill skiing. If he could combine as many of those activities together, so much the better. Above all else, his life was filled with a love for people, especially his faimly and many friends. He enjoyed listening to ther's stories as well as relating his stories to others. A memorial service celebrating Roger's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on May 27, 2002 (Memorial Day) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 220 Cresent Drive, LaPorte (across form the Door Prarie Barn). In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be sent to the American Cancer Society or to your own charity of choice in his memory.
