Elizabeth Bessette
ANTWERP ? Elizabeth Ann Cross Bessette, 89, of Antwerp passed away Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Bryan Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
Betty was born in Allen Park, Michigan, on May 28, 1934, a daughter of the late Mary (Lehman) Edwards and William Kuhn.
She was a 1952 graduate of Defiance High School. Betty held several jobs after her children were older, including working at the Vagabond Village, Kammeyers IGA and later becoming the activities director at Dallas Lamb Foundation Home, Payne and Total Care in Paulding. Betty's most favorite job was caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for the pride she took in raising her family and the kindness she showed to others. She was a lifetime and faithful member of the Antwerp United Methodist Church.
Betty will be sadly missed by her children: Bob (Marsha) Cross of Antwerp and their children, Leslie and Nathan; Mary Brown of Antwerp and her children, Mindi, Chris, Kim and Elizabeth; Kathy (Tony) Lee of Greensboro, N.C., and children, Jerrid, Kasey and Jimmy; Scott (Janis) Cross of Springboro, Ohio, and children, Nick and Cameron; Ken (Carolyn) Cross of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and children, Katie, Kendra, Jami, Amanda and Aimee; Julie (Roger) Reece of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and children, Rob, Abby and Wesley; her brother, Charlie (Carol) Edwards of Defiance and 33 great-grandchildren and one on the way. In as much as she will be missed by her family, it is comforting to know she has now been reunited with the love of her life, our father and grandfather, Ora.
Besides her husband, Ora, she was also preceded by her husband, Martin Bessette and her siblings, Rosemary Sanborn and Sharon Turner.
Viewing is 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Antwerp Global Methodist Church, 202 E. River St., Antwerp, Ohio.
Betty's service is 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, with viewing 9:30-10:15 a.m. at the church. She will be laid to rest at Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.
