Bessette, 51; owned Brothers Store ADAMS -- Paul Alfred Bassette, 51, of 119 Maple Lane, Amherst, Va., formerly of Adams, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, Va. Born in Adams on Feb. 6, 1949, son of Alfred E. and Barbara LaDame Bassette, he graduated from the former Adams High School. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970 as a demolition expert in Vietnam. He received the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He also served with Company C of the Massachusetts National Guard in North Adams, retiring in 1995 with 22 years of service. He was the proprietor of the former E.J. Brothers Store in Clarksburg for several years. He then worked as a toolmaker for GE in Pittsfield for 14 years. He moved to Virginia in 1995 and worked as a food service manager at Buckingham Correctional Facility. He was most recently employed as a lead plumber for the Southern Air Corp. in Lynchburg, Va. He was a life member of Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 Veteran of Foreign Wars in North Adams and had been bar manager there for several years. He leaves his wife of 23 years, the former Carol M. Ritcher; five sons, Terrence P. Bassette of Brandon, Vt., Chad J. Bassette of St. Albans, Vt., Paul A. Bassette of Nashport, Ohio, and Shane A. Bassette and Heath A. Bassette, both of Amherst, Va.; a daughter, Kalynn M. Bassette of Amherst, Va.; two brothers, William Bassette of Universal City, Texas, and David Bassette of Savoy; two sisters, Barbara Oleskiewicz of Adams and Betty Phillips of North Adams, and six grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Paul Alfred Bassette went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000 at 1 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. The Rev. William D. Furey, pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel, will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home. Mr. Bassette leaves his grandchildren, Meranda Ann Bassette and Derek Paul Bassette, both of Brandon, Vt.; Chad James Bassette II, Brieanna May Bassette and McKenzie Lee Bassette, all of St. Albans, Vt.; and Sasha Marie Bassette of Nashport, Ohio.
