Gary Wayne Bessette (Includes picture)
Gary Wayne Bessette, 69, of Tidewater, Ore., died from complications of lung cancer on May 23, 2010 at his home.He was born Aug. 22, 1940 to Joseph and Evelyn “Poopsie” Bessette in Burlington, Vt. He lived in Vermont until he was nine years old. He then went to live at Boys Town, Neb. until he was 13 years old and then took a train to Portland, Ore. to be reunited with his mother and attend Benson High School.He worked numerous jobs throughout his life, including at Napels Big Apple, Reynolds Aluminum, Mark’s Fabricating, Hoody’s Peanut Factory, The El Rancho, “Poopsies” Old Town Tavern, and in landscaping. Some of his favorite things to do were golfing, serving as the assistant golf coach at Waldport High School, playing the guitar, guiding on the Deschutes River during the 1960s, camping, working in his yard, going to casinos and watching the History channel. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Bessette.He is survived by his wife, Monica (Mason) Bessette; children, Kimmy (Brian) Bessette-Martinez of Portland, Jason Bessette of Portland, Lauralee Bessette-Wilson of South Dakota, Gavin Bessette of Salem, and Charmaine Bessette of Albany; sister, Sharon (Greg) Armstrong of Waldport; and brother Dana Isham of Colorado.A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 28, at Bateman Funeral Home, 915 NE Yaquina Heights Dr. in Newport, with burial following at Eureka Cemetery. The family has invited all to attend a reception in his honor following the graveside service, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 424 W. Olive St. in Newport.Bateman Funeral Home in Newport is handling arrangements.
