HIST.: Capt.Alexander Matheson ran away from home in Scotland at age 14 years - and went to sea. He worked his way up from a cabin boy to captian of his own ship at the time of his marriage to Esther Frances Wright at Saint Ann's Church (Anglican) Limehouse London. Esther sailed all over the world with him on his own ship. Their children were raised on land and ocean. Capt.Alex was killed at New Castle Australia while unloading his ship and was buried there. Esther went back to London and then removed to Selkirk and Hagersville - Ontario- Canada where she was married to Charles Leonard Bassett (a widower with five children). They later went to Saskatchawan (1911) and homsteaded a large piece of government land.
