Rev. J.W. Bassett, of Zebulon, Ga., is on a visit to his son, Mr. George W. Bassett. Rev. Mr. Bassett is 76 years old, and for fifty-six years has been a Primitive Baptist preacher. Bassett’s hill was named after Rev. Bassett’s father.

Elder J.W. Bassett died on Nov. 18, 1898. He was 81 years old and lived at Hattie, Houston Co., Ga. His childhood was spent in Macon, Bibb Co., Ga. and he resided in Houston Co. after manhood. He was ordained a preacher of the gospel before his 20th year and had been a preacher over 60 years of the Primitive Baptist. He had two wives, who preceded him to the grave. He had cancer of the face.

Rev. J.W. Bassett, who was born April 24th, 1818, will preach tomorrow at the Primitive Baptist Church, in South Macon. He joined the church in 1937, and was ordained in 1838, and has been presiding the same faith ever since. His intellect is still quite vigorous and he is popular with all classers.
