Patrick “Pat” Bassett
NEW ULM Patrick "Pat" Bassett, 74, of New Ulm, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor will follow at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, May 6 at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor.

Patrick ‘Pat’ Bassett, Sr.
New Ulm Patrick "Pat" Bassett, Sr., 74, of New Ulm, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 7 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Monsignor Douglas L. Grams will celebrate the Mass. Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor will follow at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Patrick Paul Bassett, the son of Kathryn (Greiner) Bassett, was born February 17, 1938 in St. Paul. He graduated from Cathedral High School in New Ulm in 1956. Pat served as an E-5 Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 and continued his service in the National Guard until 1966. Pat also served with the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard and took this honor very seriously. He lived in several cities throughout the United States before returning to New Ulm in 2001 to care for his mother. Pat was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed other card games as well. He especially enjoyed motorcycle trips. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Pat was very much loved by his friends and neighbors, receiving the KNUJ Good Neighbor Award in 2006 and the Community Service Award from St. Mary's Catholic Church in 2011. He was a member of American Legion Post #132 in New Ulm and the Legion Riders. Pat took very good care of his neighbors and church and in return, they took great care of him during his illness and are treasured by his family.
Survivors include his children Kimberly Davis of Pearl, MS, Patrick Bassett, Jr. (Beckie) of Corpus Christi, TX, Mindy Skelton (Wayne) of Pearl, MS, James Bassett of Corpus Christi, TX, Kathryn Gates of Lincoln City, OR; six grandchildren Josh Patrick, Keith Davis, Courtney Skelton, Jenna Allen, Vanessa Gates, Shane Gates; three great-grandchildren; sisters Annette Johnson, Loretta Wetzel, Sylvia Chase; brother-in-law Orville Steinberg; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph, Jerome and Kenneth Bassett; twin sister Patricia Schnobrich; sisters Kathleen Lavonne in infancy, and Joyce Steinberg; brothers-in-law Arden Frederickson, Neil Johnson, Raymond Schnobrich, Conrad Wetzel, Harold Chase; sisters-in-law Dolly Bassett and Elaine Bassett.
Memorials are preferred to the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor.
