Lois Rewitzer, daughter of Joseph and Florence (Macho) Rewitzer, was born on July 9, 1934, at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm. Lois was given the nickname, Dolly, at birth. When the doctor handed the newborn to Florence, he said, "Now you have your little dolly." The name has stuck ever since. Dolly grew up in New Ulm and attended the Holy Trinity Grade School. On September 3, 1952, Kenneth Bassett and Lois were united in marriage at Holy Trinity Church in New Ulm. After school, Dolly worked as a waitress at the Weneeda Caf in New Ulm. She then became one of the first home health aides for Brown County and then later a nurse's aide for Loretto Hospital. Among her favorites, she especially loved the color purple and red roses. She enjoyed playing Rummy, watching the Minnesota Twins, fishing, baking and making her own wine for Easter. She also took a liking to dogs, as they loved her as well. Dolly was certainly a fighter, making it through each and every one of her many illnesses and surgeries.
Dolly was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society for more than fifty years. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers Society and a lifelong member of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
