Joyce Steinberg
NEW ULM - Joyce Steinberg, 78, of New Ulm died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Monsignor Douglas Grams will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 7 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm.
Joyce Pauline Bassett, the daughter of Joe and Kathryn (Greiner) Bassett, was born April 18, 1931 in Comfrey. At age 6, she moved with her family to New Ulm where she attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and New Ulm High School, graduating in 1949. Joyce was united in marriage to Orville Steinberg May 28, 1952 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. They made their home in New Ulm where Joyce assisted her husband in the family businesses, Yellow Cab and City Cab. She worked as a telephone operator for the New Ulm Telephone Company for several years and later worked at B.F. Goodrich, Pantasote, Inc., and Holm Industries until retiring in 1996. Joyce was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.
Survivors include her husband Orville of New Ulm; sons Fred Steinberg and his wife Deb, James Steinberg and his companion Becky Gersch; daughter JoAnn Rubey and her husband Mike, all of New Ulm; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sisters Annette Johnson of Sleepy Eye, Loretta Wetzel of Plymouth, Sylvia Chase of Brooklyn Center; brother Patrick Bassett of New Ulm; sister-in-law Lois "Dolly" Bassett of New Ulm; very special friend Cindy Citrowske of New Ulm; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by a daughter Kathryn; brothers Josie, Kenny, and Jerry Bassett; sister Patricia Schnobrich; and brothers-in-law Neal Johnson, Raymond Schnobrich, Conrad Wetzel, and Harold Chase.
