Ruth Marian Okerstrom Bass
Ruth Marian Bass was born on Sept. 26, 1917 at Le Mars, the daughter of
Louis and Bertha (Klohs) Okerstrom. She graduated from LeMars High School in
1935, where she completed her Normal Training. Ruth taught country school for
seven years in Preston Township, Plymouth County, and the Merrill area. During the first years of World War II she worked for Gates Rubber Company in
Denver, Co. During the latter years of the war Ruth relocated to Santa onica, Ca., and worked for American Aviation in Los Angeles.
On July 15, 1948 Ruth and Laurence Bass were united in marriage at Marcus.
The couple made their home in Marcus. Ruth was a homemaker and was active in
the community and with church work. Mr. Bass passed away on April 27, 1978.
In October 1996 Ruth moved to Le Mars. For the past two years she had been a resident of Plymouth Manor Care Center.
Ruth was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. She served
on various church committees and circle and taught Sunday School for several
years. She was also a former member of Ladies Auxiliary, Women's Club, Music
Boosters and bridge clubs. Ruth enjoyed playing bridge, reading, shopping and
time spent with her family. She was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Kay Powell and her
husband Steve of Le Mars and Kim Carver and her husband Dale of Storm Lake;
four grandsons, Bret and Brad Powell of Le Mars and Kevin and Keaton Carver of Storm Lake; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Petry of Le Mars; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Laurence and a sister Mildred Okerstrom.
