Born Jan. 3, 1920, in Rockford, the son of Oscar and Hazel Barry Bassett. Lifelong Rockford resident. Married Lucille Cowell in Chippewa Falls, Wis. On Nov. 19, 1945. Veteran of U.S. Army serving during 1940s. Survivors include his wife, Lucille; daughter, Karen (Leon) Johnson; two sons, LeRoy (Sally) Bassett and George Bassett, all of Rockford; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, in Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home, 304 N. 5th St., with the Rev. David Petty, pastor of Calvary Memorial Church, officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials in care of the family. 1-22-3.
