W.M. Bassett of Electrical System Dies
William Manning Bassett, 74, retired superintendent of structures for the New England Electric System, died yesterday at his home, 15 Howland Rd., West Newton.
Earlier, he was a civil engineer for the New York Central Railroad and assisted in construction of the Grand Central Terminal in New York.
A graduate of MIT in 1902, he was a member of the institute?s Alumni Council. He also held membership in the Appalachian Mountain Club, the Menauhant Yacht Club of Falmouth, and the West Newton Neighborhood Club.
He leaves his wife, the former Katharine Varick; a son, William V. Bassett of Bethlehem, Pa., and a daughter, Mrs. Edward W. Pride Jr. of Needham.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 2 P.M. in the Second Church (Congregational) West Newton.
