Charles W. Bass
1918-1981
Charles W. Bass, 62, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1981 at Marian Health Center, St. Joseph Unit, in Sioux City. He was stricken at home here [Remsen] Sunday afternoon and died Sunday evening, of an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Bass was born May 8, 1918, at Marcus, the son of William and Nora (Kracke) Bass. His marriage to Virginia Denman took place Sept. 1, 1939 at South Sioux City, Nebr. She died on June 27, 1970.
Mr. Bass was an Army veteran of Work War II. He was in partnership in the W.W. Bass & Sons hog buying firm and also Ames & Bass Trucking, both of Marcus. He was a past member of the Marcus town council.
His marriage to Shirley (Steichen) Rosburg took place March 14, 1975 at Merrill, Ia. and they had resided at Remsen since.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Grace United Methodist Church, Marcus. Pastor James A. Davidson officiated. Burial was in St. Mary?s cemetery, Remsen. Graveside military services were conducted by Marcus American Legion Post No. 517.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley of Remsen, a son, Bruce Bass of Norfolk, Nebr., a step-son, Thomas (T.J.) Rosburg and a step-daughter, Mrs. David (Julie) Colling, both of Remsen; one grandson; one granddaughter; a brother, William Bass of Sacramento, Calif. and two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Marguerite) Petry of Le Mars and Mrs. Tete (Jean) Hogue of Marcus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Virginia, and a brother, Lawrence Bass.
Pallbearers were Hames Alesch, Bob Ames, Ray Hanson, Fred Hoover, Dennis Horstman and Wilford Goth. Honorary pallbearers were Otto Frangenberg, David Nelson, Stanley Nervig, Norman Moon and Lawrence Rupp. The Fisch funeral home of Remsen was in charge of arrangements.
