John and Ola Bassett with son, John R. Bassett, Jr. moved from Blakes, Virginia to Gwynn's Island, Virginia in 1933. He built their home on Gwynn's Island next to a shop he had built previously. They moved into their new home in January 1936. He was a good carpenter and mechanic.

Ola C. Bassett
GWYNN - Ola Carney Bassett, 94, died Tuesday, August 21, in Riverside Middle Peninsula Hospital, Gloucester.
Mrs. Bassett was a native of Gwynn's Island and a member of Gwynn's Island Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, John R. Bassett Jr. of Gwynn; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Gwynn's Island Baptist Church by the Rev. Julian Orrell. Burial will be in Gwynn's Island Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight in Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews.
