At the residence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Basset
Palmer street, Palestine, Texas, at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, February 23, 1898,
Mr. Emery B. Thompson to Miss Edna Bassett, Rev. R.R. Hamlin officiating.
This was a very quiet home wedding, only members of the families and a
few friends being present.
The attendants were Miss Eva Thompson, sister of the bridegroom, and
Mr. Harry Bassett, brother of the bride; Miss Sadie McLeod and Mr. P.
McBrearty of Taylor.
The bride wore a handsome suit of navy blue silk henrietta clot
trimmed with light and dark blue velvet, with cascade of elegant lace at side
of corsage. Miss Thompson wore a pretty street suit of navy blue, trimmed with
white braid. Miss McCloud also wore a street suit of brown cloth, with vest of
pink satin and trimmed with lace. The gentlemen all appeared in handsome black
suits.
After congratulations the company were invited out to an elegant
spread of cake, fruit, coffee and chocolate, served in the dining ro
colored waiters, in white gloves, etc.
This evening, Mrs. Thompson, mother of the bridegroom, will give a
lunch and reception to the newly wedded couple at their elegant residence on
Langston street.
Mr. Thompson is a popular young railroad man, and Miss Edna is a
native of Palestine, where she has spent the bright years of girlhood, and
numbers her friends by the hundreds. The ADVOCATE joins with many in its
felicitations to the young people and all wish for them only the happie
future. May their lives be like their wedding day -- all sunshine.
