Gerald Clarence Bassette, 71, of West Springfield, formerly of Fruitland Park, FL, beloved husband for 30 years of Theresa (Lynes) Bassette, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Springfield, MA on September 24, 1945, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Jeanette A. (Lenville) Bassette. Gerald served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 27 years. Gerald was a much loved member of Jehovah?s Witnesses where he served. He served as a Special Pioneer and Elder in Port Maria Jamaica, an Elder in Fruitland Park Florida and Westfield Ma. He will most be remembered by his quick wit and kind disposition. Besides his wife Theresa, he leaves behind his sons Ryan Bassette his partner Jenny, Aaron Bassette his fiancé Sandra, Matthew Lemire his partner Amanda, Aaron Lemire his wife Ragan, his daughters; Lisa Bassette, Kristyn Lemire, Kimberly Shanahan and her husband Jerry; 26 grandchildren; his brother, Harry Bassette his wife Sandra; his sister Susan Cootware her husband Dwayne; and his niece, Rene Rafuse husband Joe and their children, Abigail and Hunter. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 26, at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah?s Witness, 117 Southwick Rd., Westfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
