Maxine Bass Kahler
Maxine (Bass) Kahler, age 78, of 319 S. 14th St., died in Lutheran Hospital on Wednesday, March 11, 1992. She was born in Lancaster, Wis., on May 6, 1913. She married Arnold Kahler in Lancaster on June 12, 1937, and he died in 1989. Maxine was employed by the La Crosse Tribune for 33 years. She acted as national advertising manager and later was named national retail sales coordinator in market research. Maxine was the first woman president of the Wisconsin Advertising Managers Association in 1962 and prior to that had served as vice president and various other capacities within the association. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Chapter 22 of the Order of Eastern Star, Ladies of Shriners, and was a past board member of the Chamber of Commerce's convention bureau. Eastern Star services will be held on Friday, March 13, in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum, Woodlawn Cemetery, at 11 a.m. followed by funeral services with the Rev. Dr. J.M. Jordan of the First Congregational Church officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Mausoleum on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the First Congregational Church or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. Sletten McKee Hanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
