Born to Stephen L. Kirk Sr. and Anna Mae Billington Kirk on July 18, 1937 in Knoxville, TN. She was the first of eight children. She is survived by brothers and sisters Stephen L. (Gerry) Kirk, Jr., Joseph B. (Helen) Kirk, Rev. John L. Kirk, Anne (Eloy J.) Gallegos, Monsignor Thomas D. Kirk, Joan Lyttle, and Phillip A. (Suzanne) Kirk. She was married to John L. Bassett in 1963 until his passing in 1987. She later married Dr. John L. Montgomery, Sr., in 2003 until his passing in 2006. She is survived by her children Bridget (Anthony) Peterson, Colleen (Christopher) Jones, Kathryn Knapp, Ambrose Bassett, Deborah (John Paul) Rowlands, Gregory (Melissa) Bassett. She is also survived by three step children: Dr. John Montgomery Jr., Dr. Tucker Montgomery, and Julia Scott. She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren including Oren and Emily Peterson, Gabriel, Miranda, Madalyn, and Micaela Jones, Julia, Daphne, and Matilda Knapp, Jonah Drumm, Nathan Rowlands, Bryson and Ava Bassett. She graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Knoxville, TN in 1959. She worked in orthopedics and pediatrics at St. Mary's early in her career, but spent most of her career as a Registered Nurse in geriatrics at Shannondale Health Care Center in Knoxville. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville TN as well. Receiving of friends will be on Wednesday March 28, 2018 at 1:00 PM followed by a funeral mass starting at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The service will be officiated by her brother Monsignor Thomas D. Kirk and Fr. David Boettner. Burial services will follow the mass at Berry Highland West Funeral Home on Sherrill Blvd in Knoxville TN. The family would like to thank the staff at Shannondale Health Care Center for all of their care of Mrs. Montgomery. Berry Highland West Funeral Home is honored to serve the Montgomery family.
