James Calvin Bassett, 78, passed away on August 29, 2024, in Washington, GA.
Jim, as he was known to most, was born as an identical twin in Kansas City, Missouri to Edwin and Alice Bassett on September 6, 1945. He spent the early years of his life in and around Kansas City, Missouri where he met and married Sue Ann. He enlisted to serve his country for many years in the United States Army and served in several locations, including Kuwait and Germany. He retired from the US Army in Athens, GA in 1990 where he worked as an over the road truck driver for several years. He moved to Washington, GA in the winter of 2016.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Alice Bassett, his sister, Carol and his beloved wife, Sue Ann who passed away in October 2016.
Jim is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathi Edmond of Garfield, GA, Linda and Jimmy Blackstone of South Carolina, his twin brother and sister-in-law, John and Barbara Bassett of Lee?s Summit, MO, and his younger brother, Steve Bassett, also of Missouri. He is also survived by five grandchildren (Linda Jordan, Sara Edmond, Calvin Edmond, Barbara Edmond and Richard Land), eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren who will miss their ?Opa? very much and numerous nieces and nephews.
A small memorial will be conducted at a later time. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the American Cancer Society in Jim?s name would be appreciated.
