Note from Aunt Thelma: Papoo was the first to change the name from Claxton to Claxon. His half sister, Bell McQuife said that his father was a drunk. We think that Papoo was born in Pleasentville, KY. He was raised by a black nanie. She was not allowed to keep a white boy full time and make decions for him, so he was passed around to town people. He remembers lots of christmases without any presents.

(Claxon) Stearley, R.R. #1, Box 358, Gosport, IN 47433, dated 19 Feb & 28 Mar1991, identifies Harry Lester CLAXON as her grandfather, born 1870, Pleasureville, Henry Co., KY, father Robert CLAXON. Mother (name unknown) died when he was very young, father Robert was a riverboat captain and could not care for him. Raised by Uncle Jim and Aunt Sally (Claxon) MULLIN. [note: Father could be Robert (RIN-348), son of Henderson (RIN-344), Sally Claxon's uncle.]. Letter states Harry was working as a driver for Louisville Linen Co and wife Ollie worked at the Victoria Hotel where they met. Harry had seven children and lived most of his life in Indiana. Harry worked for the Southern Railway Co as a yardmaster and conductor.
