Roger D. Bessette
Roger D. Bessette, 80, of Middleboro, died May 23, 2013, in Morton Hospital following a period of declining health. He was born June 12, 1932, in Middleboro, son of the late Armand and Emily (Costa) Bessette. Roger was a paratrooper while serving in the U.S. Army <http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/army/?personid=164967264&affiliateID=1532> during the Korean War <http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/korean-war/?personid=164967264&affiliateID=1532> and was honorably discharged. He worked as a nurse's assistant for the U.S. Government for more than 30 years. He also worked for the Middleboro School Department as a janitor and later a crossing guard for more than 40 years. Roger treasured his family and friends and enjoyed driving his baby blue T-Bird. He was an early member of the Vikings Motorcycle Club. He was a member (fourth degree) of the Knights of Columbus, Middleboro/Lakeville Council. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia M. (Rafferty) Bessette; devoted father of Michele M. Hall and her life partner Paul Doherty of East Bridgewater, Cynthia A. Glasgow and her husband Alex of Rochester; loving brother of Joyce McFadyen of Fremont, Calif., Leannette Martin of Fairhaven and the late Robert Bessette. Also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 59 Peirce St., Middleboro, Tuesday at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. Interment in Saint Mary Cemetery.
