Martha Lurene Bass Sims Jones
Graveside services for Martha Lurene Bass Sims Jones, 73, of Denton, Texas will be 11:00 AM, Friday, May 18, 2012, at Kilgore Cemetery with Pastor Scott Nowack officiating. Martha went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 10, 2012, surrounded by her family at her home in Denton.
Martha was born April 16, 1939 in Jacksonville, Texas to Robert M. and Sarah Schley Bass. When she was a young girl, the Bass family moved to Kilgore, Texas. Martha graduated from Kilgore High School in 1957 and later earned her baccalaureate degree in Speech Therapy from Texas Women's University.
Among the joys of Martha's life, beyond her family, was her love of travel and the culinary arts. She attended Julia Child's renowned culinary school in Paris, France. Friends and family can attest to the unique and wonderful creations Martha brought forth from her kitchen. In the Fall of 2011, Martha and her son, Robert, traveled to Europe to re-visit his birthplace, Munich, Germany, and also her favorite city in Europe, Venice, Italy. Martha delighted in all things beautiful and was especially joyful at the wedding of her granddaughter, Samantha (Sims) Lynn on January 21, 2012. Additionally, Martha had a passion for helping others and her favorite place of service was the Denton Community Food Center that aids local families in the Denton area.
Martha is survived by her sons, Edward and Diana Sims of Gainesville, Texas, Robert Sims of Santa Clara, California; granddaughters Delany Sims, Samantha (Sims) Lynn and her husband Shane Lynn of Denton, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Mary Jon Bass of Longview, Texas; a brother-in-law, Bill Hill of Dallas, Texas;
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Jones; parents, Robert M. Bass and Sarah Bass Bronstad; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Florence Bass, and a sister, Loey Hill.
