Funeral Arrangements Not Yet Completed
Charles A. Bassett, age 55 years, jewelryman of this city, suffered a stroke of paralysis while building a fire in the kitchen stove yesterday morning and died without once regaining consciousness. The end came at 10:30 a.m., within a few hours after he was stricken.
The untimely death proved a great shock to the family. Mr. Bassett arose yesterday morning in usual good health and was engaged in lighting the stove, when the members of the family heard him fall to the floor. Upon reaching his side they found him in an unconscious condition and Dr. George Hockett was summoned. Medical attention failed to give him any relief and the end came soon afterwards.
Mr. Bassett is survived by the widow and ten children; Ainsworth Bassett, of Hicksville, Ohio; Mrs. Florence Donnelly, Paul, Alma, May, Maleto, Ronald, Lillian, Mildred and Ruth.
The funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed but it is expected that they will be announced this morning, being held off pending the arrival of relatives from afar.
Mr. Bassett came to this city about twenty years ago and engaged in the jewelry business. Until a few years ago he occupied a room in the Harter hotel now used as the hotel lobby. From there he moved his store to the Donnelly block on South Meridian street, where the store is at present located. He was a member of the Anderson lodge of Masons.
