John Ray Bass
BASS, Jon Ray 78, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed on to his next great adventure on May 22, 2023. He was born in Quitman, Georgia, on September 11, 1944, the youngest child of Vivian (F.V.) and Gertrude Bass of Odessa; both deceased. He graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1964 and then served in the U.S. Navy. He was on the USS Oklahoma in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1965 at the start of the Vietnam War. After discharge, he worked as a cross-country truck driver for many years. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rosa Lopez Bass, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and her extended family, including relatives in El Salvador. Jon is also survived by his sister, Dana (Bass) Chwan, of Canon City, Colorado (formerly of Tampa); niece, Michele Chwan Wayland (Erik), of Canon City; his daughter, Jennifer Bass McGuire (Sean); daughters, Vivian and Allie, of Parkville, Missouri; and numerous cousins and friends throughout the country. Cremains will be interred at Santa Fe National Cemetary at a later date. Donations in Jon's memory may be made to Habitat for Humanity or a charity of choice.
