Edward A. Bassett
Edward Avery Bassett, 84, a Dallas building contractor for 50 years, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday in his home at 5111 Hoben, where he had lived since coming to Dallas.
Born November 25, 1872, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bassett went to Chicago, Illinois, as a youth and learned the construction business. Then he came to Dallas and started out on his own.
Survivors include his wife Nellie; a daughter, Mrs. Catherine Belton; three stepsons, Clyde Nelson, John Nelson and Willard Nelson, and four stepdaughters, Mrs. Myrtle Drinning, Mrs. Hazel Kovar, Mrs. Frances Mullican and Mrs. Newell Mullican, all live in Dallas.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in McCullough Chapel, Mesquite. The Reverend Coy C. Weir, pastor of the South Cliff Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park.
