      Louise Annette Ivey

Louise Annette Ivey In the small town of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, on August 14, 1937, Louise Annette Bessette was born as the youngest child to Winfrid Joseph Bessette and Antonia Blanche Beauregard in their family of 9 children. Louise was raised in a French speaking household, and attended an all girl's Catholic school where she learned to speak English. After graduating high school Louise worked for the new company of IBM. On November 1, 1958, Louise married Daniel Lee Ivey in a small ceremony in South Burlington, Vermont, on Ethan Allen Air Force Base. They spent the next 6 years in the Cape Cod area while Daniel was enlisted in the Air Force. During this time they had 6 children. In 1966 the family moved to California, ultimately Louise and her children moved to Eureka to be near her parents and 2 of her brothers. Louise spent the next several years working as a waitress with the majority of those at Sambo's Restaurant. In 1974 she relocated to the Southern Humboldt area. Louise ran the Road Runner café in Phillipsville until 1976. In the spring of 1976 Louise and her dear friend Donna Trout hiked 12 miles into the Trinity Alps to reach a gold claim in the Pony Creek area where they camped for 14 days. She often told this story and felt her journey up the mountain was a life changing experience and a true accomplishment of inner strength. From 1976 to 1983 Louise worked at various local businesses in the area until her good friend Wanda Chadbourne convinced her to become a school bus driver in 1984. Louise's career as a school bus driver for Southern Humboldt Unified Schools ended with her retirement in 2001. During the 17 years she spent driving buses along the scenic roads of Southern Humboldt, she developed lifelong friends in many of her co workers. The students whose lives she touched throughout her years as a school bus driver were cherished by her and the focal point of the stories and yarns she told until just a few short weeks ago. Louise loved to laugh, and loved to make those around her laugh too. She managed to do this by sharing her life experiences in a way that allowed you to laugh through your tears, or laugh until you cried. She was a brave lady and one who never looked at her accomplishments as anything more than just doing what needed to be done. She is survived by her six children: D'Ann Teasley of Weott and husband Greg, Donna Anderson of Myers Flat and husband Dave, Dan Ivey of San Luis Obispo, Denyse Bandettini of Reno, Nevada, and husband Neil, Dina Ivey of Garberville, David Ivey of Cloverdale and wife Pam; grandchildren, Erica Cherry of Fortuna, Leah Nunes of Lakeport and husband Derek, Shawn Cherry of Redway, Alyssa Ivey of Fortuna, Jenna and Kelsey Hartzell of Garberville, Kaitlyn and Kylee Teasley of Weott. Louise is also survived by her brother, Leo Bessette; sister, Rita Miller; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Roger, Larry, Norman, John; and sisters, Jet and Colombe. In the early morning hours on May 18, 2007, Louise Ivey peacefully and courageously left those she loved behind to step into the world of God and become reunited with her parents, brothers and sisters. During the last months of her life she talked often of her satisfaction with her life, and all that she had done. Louise died the way that she lived; surrounded by her children, with bravery, comfort, love and the peaceful knowledge that came from her conviction in having lived well and laughed long. A special Thanks to Susan Olsen of Miranda for without her help, love and support we could not have fulfilled Louise's wish to be taken home for her remaining time with us. The family is asking anyone wishing to make a contribution, to do so in Louise's name to Hospice of Humboldt. A celebration of Louise's life will be held at Gobles Fortuna Mortuary on Thursday May 24, 2007, at 1:00 pm. A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday May 23, 2007, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
