Roger L. Bessette
Roger L. Bessette, 83, of Aiken, died Friday July 23, 2004, at his residence under the care of Hitchcock Hospice.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa (LaRose) Bessette of Aiken; four sons, Bernard J. Bessette of Aiken, Ronald A. Bessette of Lewiston, Maine, Dennis M. Bessette of West Burke, Vt., and Jeffrey P. Bessette of Easley; a daughter, Carol A. Zuccaro of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; a brother; Leopold Bessette of Eureka, Calif.; and two sisters, Louise Ivey and Rita Miller, both of California.
Mr. Bessette is also survived by 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bessette is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Wilfred and Antonia "Beauregard" Bessette, as well as a son, Reginald A. Bessette.
He was born in Brownington, Vt., and lived in St. Johnsbury before moving to Aiken in 2001. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honored with a Silver Star and Purple Heart for injuries received in battle. He retired after 25 years of being a truck driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company. Mr. Bessette was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Church and a former communicant of St. John's Church in St. Johnsbury.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Bessette will be celebrated on Wednesday July 28, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Help of Christians Church. Interment will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Johnsbury, Vt. Memorial donations may be directed to the Good Shepherd Foundation, P.O. Box 146 St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, is in charge of arrangements.
