    • He enlisted in World War I on 24 Nov 1917 in Meridian, Mississippi and served in the United States Air Service 166 Day Bombing Aero Squadron. He began training on 6 Dec 1917 at Kelly Field in Texas. He left 5 Mar 1918 and servied in England, France and Germany. He took part in the Mince Argonne offensive from 18 Oct to 11 Nov 1918. He was promoted from private to Sergeant on 1 Sep 1918. He was promoted from Sargeant to Sgt. 1st class on 1 Feb 1919. He was assigned to the army of occupation from
      21 Nov 1918 until 6 Apr 1919. He arrived back in the U.S. on 16 Jun 1919. He was honorably discharged as Sgt. 1st class on 7 Jul 1919 at Camp Pike, Arkansas.
