Mary Louise Gregory Fitzgerald, September 22, 1914 - May 17, 2015. Our beloved Mother passed peacefully onto eternal life at the age of 100 years. Mary was born in Paris, MO to Marie Bassett Gregory and Winfrey Hearne Gregory. She attended Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, LA. On summer vacation in Paris, she met the love of her life Lt. Edward William Fitzgerald, whom she married in June of 1937. Thus began her thirty year adventure traveling the world as an Army wife. After their military retirement in 1960, Col. and Mrs. Fitzgerald lived for several years in Santa Barbara, CA before settling in El Paso. She is survived by her three children, Kathleen Sullivan of Littleton, CO, Michael Fitzgerald (Rose) of Hanalei, HI, and Mary Ellen Sutherland of El Paso, and her grandchildren, Gregory, Kathleen, Matthew, Jennifer, Michael, Stephanie, and Amy and 17 great-grandchildren. She suffered the loss of grandson Mark and great-grandson Steffen. Mary was a devoted member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church as well as a member of the Retired Regular Officer's Wive's Club. She was an exceptional homemaker who enjoyed years of needle crafting, ceramics, and playing bridge and her favorite pastime, reading novels and People magazine. She will be sorely missed by her dear chihuahua, Lucy. The family would like to extend their appreciation for the exceptional care given by the entire staff of Monte Vista at Coronado and the compassion of the Ambassadors, especially Elvira and Helen. Thanks is extended to Hospice of El Paso who provided solace in her final days. Funeral Mass will be held at Chapel#1 (St. Michael's), Ft. Bliss on Thursday, May 28 at 2:00 PM. Internment at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of El Paso. Mother - Gana you have been and always be our pillar of strength. We will praise you at our Celebration of Life gathering at our favorite beach in Mexico.
