Richard Wayne Bass
Richard Wayne Bass, 40, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Florida Hospital DeLand. Born in Fort Pierce, Florida he was an engineer for the Florida Department of Transportation and was a proud member of the Florida National Guard in DeLand. He served during Operation Enduring Freedom and obtained the rank of Sergeant. He received the National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Expert Marksmanship and the Army Achievement Medal. His unit was activated during the hurricanes and fires to protect and serve the State of Florida. Richard is survived by his wife, Melissa; son, Jesse; daughter, Angelina; mother, Gerri Boatwright Turner, all of DeLand; father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bass of Fort Pierce; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Holyfield of DeLand; sisters, Lori Lacey and Aundrea Haffield, both of Vero Beach, FL; brothers, Jody of Deltona, now serving in Iraq, Jimmy of Kansas and Larry Sircy of Vero Beach. Friends may call Saturday, April 24 from 6-8 PM at the Lankford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Sunday at 1:00 PM at the National Guard Armory, 401 South Alabama Avenue, DeLand with full military honors rendered by the Florida National Guard. Interment will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery, DeLand.
