      Frances Bass Carson

      Frances Bass Carson, 79, of Crossville, passed away on October 6, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

      Mrs. Carson was born on November 14, 1942, in Memphis, TN, and is the daughter of the late George Neal Bass, Jr. and Frances (Monroe) Bass.

      She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Mitchell Lynn Carson; sons, Mitch Carson (Becky,) and Mike Carson (Roberta); grandchildren, Michaela, Charles, Bobbie Lynn, Davis, and Ila.

      In addition to her parents, Frances is preceded in death by her brother, Ben Bass.

      Frances was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She began her career as a high school teacher in Oakridge, TN. Upon moving to Crossville, she became a valuable member of her community by being involved in the Jaycees, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, and a valuable member of the Crossville Downtown Revitalization. She began working at First National Bank of Crossville. Then she served in several managerial positions in GNB which later became Plateau, an insurance company which she helped create. She had a love and passion for helping children. She helped with Kids Incorporated and Hilltoppers, served on the School Board, helped form CCESP, which was a before and after care program for school age children, and played an important role in the 4th grade tours of downtown. She was a long-term member of First United Methodist Church where she served on many committees/boards and volunteered with the youth in various positions. On a state level, she served on the Child Abuse Prevention Board and served as State Representative Shirley Duer's campaign manager. She was given several accolades throughout her lifetime, with one being named Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women's Club for her work at Downtown Crossville, Inc.

      Memorial Services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Monday, October 17, 2022, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Steven Lee and Bro. Jerry Mayo officiating. Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Chapel at Bilbrey Funeral Home.
